CROP REPORT Cliff Notes: Increased Organic Ataulfo volumes are coming soon and Tommy Atkins starting up!

The majority of packhouses in the south have still not opened, so the start of the season remains extremely slow. Most packhouses are set to open mid to late next week. The expectation is that by the end of next week, larger volumes will begin to be packed for shipping into the USA.

The pipeline on the organic side is still very empty, with little to no Peruvian fruit flowing easy in the market, so demand is exceptionally strong. Fruit—especially large Ataulfos—is fetching high market prices and is expected to remain there for some time, as it always does. As volumes increase, more size opportunities are emerging, and with that comes great opportunity for price softening.

Historically it’s important to note that  with organic Ataulfos large sizes stay in high demand all season long, a demand that has continue to pressurize price back to the farms.  There seems to be ample opportunities for price sensitive customers who can take 18/20cnts Ataulfos.

Tommy Atkins mangoes from the Crespo Organic program will begin packing immediately when the main Oaxaca packinghouse opens on February 5th. This is good news for Crespo Organic customers, who will soon be able to build fuller displays with both organic Ataulfo and  organic Tommy varieties—creating a stronger overall mango experience for consumers after several months of bare-bones displays. Keep in mind that transit time from the Oaxaca packhouse to the US border is required, so the first Tommy loads are expected to arrive in McAllen or Nogales around February 10–11th—volumes will be limited on the onset.

Weekly In-Store Conditions Report
Quality on Ataulfo mangoes has been very good so far, but it is still a bit early to fully assess how the mangoes will ripen, display, and perform (taste) for consumers at home. This leads into the next exciting update: a new in-store conditions report that Crespo Organic Mangoes will be offering to customers—and their customers—through a dedicated distribution list.

This weekly in-store conditions report will be available exclusively to Crespo Organic mango customers through a weekly distribution or directly via the Crespo Organic sales team. It serves as a diagnostic and decision-support tool, informed by cross-regional input from Crespo’s direct-trade wholesale and retail partners, helping produce teams assess, merchandise, and respond to real-world mango conditions at the store level.

The report will launch March 1st, additional details can be experienced HERE.
