Mango Tasting & Cutting Demos
Crespo mango-ed in an {organic} store near you!
Summer: the warmest season of the year, in the northern hemisphere from June to August
Mango: a tropical oval or oblong fruit with succulent and juicy aromatic pulp and firm, varying color blush-toned skin and a hard central pit
Mania: an excessive enthusiasm or desire; an obsession
In grocery stores across the country, shoppers are reaching for more mangoes than ever before. The fruit’s popularity is soaring as Americans catch on to what much of the world already knew—mangoes are one of the most widely consumed fruits globally. They’re versatile, delicious, and thanks to Mexico’s proximity and Crespo Organic’s direct supply chain, priced perfectly in the peak of summertime.
At the heart of this surge is what we call Crespo Organic Summer Mango Mania #MuchosMangoes—our annual promotion during the alignment of peak mango production in Nayarit and Sinaloa with peak consumer demand (aka summertime). It’s a win for everyone. We move more volume, retailers get consistent supply and fixed pricing, and shoppers enjoy high-quality mangoes when they want them most.
Summer Mango Mania is about moving a lot of mangoes—and we’ve learned that the most effective way to do that is by educating and engaging the people buying them. We focus on education (Mango-Ed), interaction, and building real mango literacy. One of the most powerful ways we do that is through our In-Store Mango Tastings & Cutting Demos—a signature Crespo Organic Kitchen experience we’ve been doing since day one.
Most mango sellers stick to the sidelines. But not Crespo, we are in stores, face-to-face with mango eaters, every summer, year after year. We taste, we teach, we talk, we spread #MangoJoy. Choosing, storing, cutting, and using are skills we want every mango-lover to know—and we show up to make sure that happens.
Our tastings and demos are designed to EDUCATE, EXCITE, ENGAGE, and ENTICE mango shoppers. And mango shoppers, by the way, spend about 48% more per grocery trip. They’re more engaged, return more often, buy more produce, and genuinely care about how to choose, cut, and use mangoes—as well as other fruits and vegetables.
They linger longer in the produce section, love a good tasting or tip, and are more likely to try new varieties or recipes. Basically, they make the department better—happier, smarter, and more profitable. And so do our demos.
Variety & Flavor
Each demo features a tasting of 4 to 7 different mango varieties, depending on what’s in season:
• Tommy Atkins
• Kent
• Ataulfo
• Keitt
• Mango Queen Specialty Mangoes: Mallika, Nam Doc Mai, and Kiew Savoy
We also sample both of our dried mangoes—regular Kent/Keitt and Ataulfo—so shoppers can taste the difference between the two styles and understand how mangoes can shine even after drying.
#ChooseYourCut
Our demos always include live #ChooseYourCut demonstrations. We walk customers through the five-core mango cuts we promote, using our favorite tools and offering tips to make mango cutting less intimidating and more fun:
• The Hack
• The Hedgehog
• The Cut & Slice
• The Peel & Slice
• The Mexican Flower Method
We demonstrate in real time and encourage questions—these interactions are some of the most rewarding parts of our work. People often walk away from the demo with #MuchosMangoes in their carts and smiles on their faces. Kids love our demos and tastings.
Sharing #Mango-Ed
What sets our demos apart is the educational focus led by the #MangoJoy. Yes, we hand out samples. But more importantly, our Crespo Organic Kitchen culinary team teaches:
• How to select mangoes based on feel and smell
• How to gauge ripeness
• How to store mangoes properly at home—tips for ripening and refrigerating
• What makes each variety unique in flavor, texture, and origin
We give out Crespo Organic Kitchen recipe cards, mango cutting guides, and answer all the questions shoppers have. Kids walk away with mango stickers and tattoos; adults leave with new knowledge—and often, a few mangoes in their carts.
A Rare Brand-to-Consumer Exchange
Crespo Organic is one of the few brands consistently investing in in-store education at this level. These demos give us a chance to engage in meaningful conversation with shoppers, to share the story of our direct-trade mango program, and to learn from those who eat the fruit we grow.
It’s a two-way exchange: we share what we know, and we gain insight into how consumers are using mangoes, what excites them, and what confuses them. This feedback helps shape how we grow, market, and educate.
