Organic Crop Report
Transitional nuances between CV & OG matter
The southern regions have finished, and the transition into Nayarit is complete with Ataulfos, but round fruit tightens up on the organic side as Nayarit fruit takes its sweet time readying. Make no mistake: conventional markets will also be constricted for a few weeks with the same issue, though they can pull from Michoacán, Jalisco, and Colima. Organic supplies in other regions are limited or non-existent. What’s being packed for landing in the next week is mostly 9–10 count Tommy, so until the wall of #MuchosMangoes bursts with volume and variety large organic fruit will stay in short supply.
Organic Ataulfo
Most Nayarit new-crop Ataulfo mangoes are medium-sized, with a wider range of counts than the massive southern fruit. 16/18 count are most prolific and we’re in the midst of a nice flush of them. Larger 12/14 count remain in high demand, command premium pricing, and are more limited as trees yield mixed sizes. Quality is strong and flavor promising—and will only get better as they age on the tree. Sinaloa Ataulfos are just around the corner. While it’s too early to call the season’s end, remember it usually wraps by mid-July; we selectively harvest and hoard to extend limited supplies through the end of the month.
Organic Tommy & Kent
Right now, round mangoes are tight as we wait for Nayarit Tommy to actually start. Conventional supplies can pull from multiple regions, but organic is limited—Nayarit Tommys keep arriving later each year, despite repeated promises of an early kickoff. So, I am not surprised and to be honest, it’s much more promising than years past. We’ve bridged some of that gap with late southern‐region Kents, always a juicy surprise when we need it most. The next 12–14 days will be tricky as 9/10 count mangoes dominate and 6/7/8 count remain extremely tight. After that, Nayarit ramps up for real, and it only gets better, with Kents joining in the mix toward the later part of June. The wall of mangoes should hit right as Summer Mango Mania begins June 15th and roll through at least the end of July, if not into August.
Mango Queen Specialty Mangoes
The Mango Queen specialty mangoes; Mallika, Nam Doc Mai and Kiew Savoy—are expected to start after mid-June, run through July (sometimes all three together, sometimes one or two), and trickle into August. Orchard variability makes exact timing and yields hard to gauge. Demand outpaces supply; first offerings go to full-season, full-line Mango Mania customers who joined us from the start.
