Casting Call – The Mango8

The Mango8

Crespo Organic & Under the Mango Tree follow 8 real organic mango shoppers through the Mexican mango season to glean direct consumer insight and improve the overall orchard to table experience of the brand.

Concept
A simple recurring “check-in” series that follows 8 real organic mango shoppers through the Mexican season, capturing how they buy, ripen, eat, use and feel about organic mangoes week to week—an attempt to tell the season’s story through lived experience (taste, quality, price, displays, education, habit shifts).

We’ll intentionally choose 8 very different shoppers from different parts of the U.S., with different motivations and buying styles—deep organic-health loyalists, direct trade supporters, flavor hunters, and people who are price-conscious above all—so the season gets tracked through a wide girth of real perspectives. The goal is to learn more truth about what mango shoppers actually see, want, need, and experience, and use that feedback to better connect what farmers grow with what customers genuinely want to buy. This is what direct trade supply chains are built to do: listen closely, stay accountable, and keep the people purchasing the fruit connected to the people producing it.

Casting Call
We’ll hold a simple “casting call” for anyone interested in becoming one of this season’s 8 organic mango shoppers. The casting call will be posted on Under the Mango Tree and Crespo Organic Instagram, and we’ll encourage retailers who sell organic mangoes to share it with their customers. The post will include a few short questions and direct applicants to send their responses to Mango8@UnderTheMangoTree.blog or via Under the Mango Tree / Crespo social messages.

Casting questions (Name, Email, Phone Number -for the group text, if chosen)
1. City + state.
2. Where do you buy organic mangoes?
3. What matters most to you? (price, flavor, organic values, direct trade, convenience, kids)
4.  Would you agree to a 60-second weekly group text check-in, occasional photo/video, and to participate in at least 1 of the 4 Zoom check-ins we’ll hold during the season?

To Apply: DM us @CrespoOrganic IG ot Tik Tok or E-mail Mango8@UnderTheMangoTree.blog with the casting questions 1-4 answered!

Zoom Dates: Sun March 15th 2PM PST | Sun May 3rd 2PM PST | Sun June 28th  2PM PST | Sun Aug 30th 2PM CST

* 10 applicants not selected as the Mango8 will be invited to join any of the season’s Zoom discussions as Mango8 Community Members and will receive a small thank-you gift for their participation.

Selection process (fair + balanced)
Our admin team will choose all participants from the same short casting format, so everyone has an equal shot—not based on who DMs first or who has the biggest following. From there, we’ll select 8 shoppers to intentionally represent different regions of the U.S. and different buying motivations (price-first, flavor-first, organic/health-first, direct trade supporters, etc.) so the group reflects a wide, balanced cross-section of organic mango shoppers.

We hope retailers will share the call directly with their customers to help widen the pool.

Deadline to Apply for The Mango8  March 30th, 2026

Participant thank-you
The final Mango8 will receive a case of Crespo Organic dried mangoes and an Under the Mango Tree eco t-shirt.  Plus, a peak summer mango treat from the Crespo Organic Kitchen.

Note
The final Mango8 do not need to be Crespo Organic loyalists—just organic mango loyalists.

The basic structure
The Mango8 give raw input. We turn it into education for the industry. The job of the Mango8 is to report, the job of the industry is to listen.

Flow + execution
We’ll meet once at the start of the series to hear how each shopper approaches buying organic mangoes—what they choose, what they look for, what they avoid, what they’ve hated in past seasons, and what they’re hoping to see in the season ahead. We’ll ask some basics about how to improve the experience at home—how they choose, ripen, cut, and use mangoes—learning what can make them feel more confident and get a better overall experience.

Weekly check-ins (group text)
We check in weekly via text with the 8 shoppers to see what they’re seeing and tasting out there. Ideally they send occasional photos and videos when they have them, but the core is a quick simple reply of their observances of choice.

2–3 consistent questions in the same style each week, focused on:
price, quality, variety, flavor, satisfaction, and how they used the mangoes
They can also ping us anytime with quick thoughts, photos, or videos if something stands out.

Lightweight participation rules
Participants can skip the check-in if they didn’t buy or see mangoes that week. No guilt, no pressure. The series tracks and reports what’s happening naturally in real shopping life.

How content gets published
Weekly social check-ins drawn from text replies, featuring 2 shoppers at a time — no names used. Everyone rotates so the content stays consistent without requiring all 8 every week. A monthly report on Under the Mango Tree summarizes what shoppers are seeing and tasting across the month, with direct takeaways for the industry based on findings.

End-of-season recap (Zoom) Sun Aug 30th, 2PM CST
This live wrap-up will be open to the entire mango industry, giving everyone a real-time look at what the Mango 8 experienced throughout the season—what they loved, what disappointed them, what shifted in their buying habits, and what they want next year. We’ll open the floor for Q&A so attendees can ask questions directly and hear shopper feedback in their own words. The goal of the Mango8 experience is to learn what shoppers truly want so the supply chain can deliver it more consistently—supporting longevity and prosperity across the full chain, orchard to table.
