The Final Countdown, Keitt Season
With the Kent season now winding down, we’re turning a key page in the Mexican organic mango calendar. As noted in Under the Mango Tree’s July 29 report, the final wave of Mexican organic fruit has arrived—and it feels like it’s ending sooner than usual.
For Crespo Organic, the last Kents are arriving now—what we’re getting over the next few days is all there is. Sales will run through early next week, and if you’re targeting 6/7/8 count fruit, this is your final call.
Stepping into the mix, Keitts from southern Sinaloa and Los Mochis are picking up where the Kents leave off. Southern Sinaloa fruit is hitting now, Mochis also, and expected to be exclusive in about seven days. Currently, sizing is averaging smaller for this region—mostly 8/9/10 count—with very few real biggies.
For the Crespo Organic program, pricing should remain generally consistent. Around a week out, we expect market shifts as both conventional and organic volume tightens— Crespo pricing will remain as stable as possible so we can focus on good volume sales through the end.
As we approach the finish line, every indicator points to the end of the season arriving in the last week of August. Some growers project they might stretch into early September, but like the July report foresaw, market signals and maturation are pointing straight toward an August 30th ending.
I’ll report back next week with more details as we move into the literal countdown!
